Choose your carpet to see exactly how to wash, vacuum and look after it. Every carpet type is cared for differently.
Which carpet do you have?
Opening your parcel
Never cut the packaging with a knife, box cutter or scissors. A blade can slice the pile or the weave right under the plastic.
- Lay the parcel flat on the floor where you plan to use the carpet. It is heavy, so avoid opening it in the air or on a table.
- Open it by hand along the tape seam. If you need a tool, lift the plastic away from the carpet first and cut only the plastic, never against the carpet.
- Slide the carpet out, remove any ties or rubber bands, and unroll it face up.
- If it has creases, roll it loosely the opposite way for a few hours. Do not iron it.
- Leave it to rest for 24 to 72 hours. Creases relax and the packaging smell fades on its own.
Placing your carpet and the first weeks
- Use a thin, non-slip carpet pad. It protects the back of the carpet and keeps it from sliding.
- Keep it out of long hours of direct sunlight, which fades colours.
- Put coasters under heavy furniture and lift furniture rather than dragging it.
- Rotate the carpet every 3 to 6 months so wear and light stay even.
- Loose thread? Never pull it. Trim it level with the carpet using small scissors.
